Dan Brown To Write ‘The Lost Symbol’ Screenplay

Dan Brown, the author of multiple best-sellers two of which have already been made into movies (The Da Vinci Code and Angels And Demons), is repotedly going to write the screenplay for the screen adaptation of his other novel – The Lost Symbol. Read on about the future movie hit after a jump!

This is actually the first time that Dan Brown will be writing the screen adaptation for one of his books. Which is more, Dan will be taking over the writing duties from Steven Knight. The latest Brown’s best-seller was sold in more than one million copies both in hardcover and e-book versions in one day and thus became the fastest selling adult novel of all time.

The Lost Symbol again features the famous Harvard University symbologist Robert Langdon who is searching for the the Mason’s Pyramid and the Lost Word. The Lost Symbol is being produced by Ron Howard who directed and produced the first two Dan Brown’s adaptations. However, it is not clear yet whether Howard will be directing this movie or not. It is also unclear whether Tom Hanks will reprise the role of Langdon in the new movie – but we sincerely hope he will.

The Lost Symbol by Dan Brown

In The Lost Symbol, the third installation of his mystery series exploring the history of ancient and secretive societies, Dan Brown burrows into the depths of one of the world’s best known and populated fraternities, the Freemasons.

The Lost Symbol follows Robert Langdon on yet another journey of murder, mysticism, and mayhem. The Harvard professor of religious symbology, who previously found himself among strangers in Switzerland, Italy, and France, is now working with old friends in his nation’s capital.

The story begins when Langdon receives a phone call from the assistant of an old friend, Peter Solomon. The man explains that Solomon is hosting a gala and would like Langdon to read his lecture on the Freemasons. Langdon heads off to Washington, D.C., only to discover an empty reception hall, save for the severed hand of Peter Solomon.

Langdon works closely with FBI instructor, Inoue Sato, Warren Bellamy (architect of the Capitol), and Solomon’s sister Katherine to find the man responsible for Solomon’s kidnapping, who goes by the name Mal’akh.

As with The Da Vinci Code and Angels and Demons, Brown’s latest story takes place during one 24-hour period. Langdon and Katherine travel across Washington deciphering ancient clues left by the founding fathers (most of whom were Masons) so they can find the “lost symbol” and use it as a bartering chip to get back their dear friend.

Brown has been attacked by critics for providing false information in his books. However, like many authors, he merely contorts minor details of the truth to fit his story. Just because some of the ideas are farfetched and contrary to popular belief does not mean they are incorrect. Readers need to open their minds to the possibility.

With surprising twists and tricks around every corner, blood-pumping suspense, and a few truths that may cause your head to whirl, The Lost Symbol is a book none should miss.

Dan Brown Working on New Book

This week Dan Brown appeared on the Today show, chatting to Matt Lauer about the new illustrated edition of The Lost Symbol and various other topics. At one point Lauer asked him about his appearance at the Italian La Scala opera house, and wondered aloud if that would be in the next book. DB paused, and laughed awkwardly, before saying “Anybody that’s seen La Scala knows it is an unbelievable piece of architecture, great amount of history.” Very suggestive that this will play a part in the next Langdon novel.

Lauer then wondered whether the next book would take as long as The Lost Symbol did (5 years after DVC), to which DB replied “I have been informed…by my wife, that if this new novel takes as long as The Lost Symbol, my next media appearance will be on The Bachelor.”
